Midweek Feminist Brainfood

Here are a couple of great videos passed to me by awesome, thoughtful, feminist friends. The first one, which is a bit long, but sooo worth it, is about the danger of "the single story" in narrowing our narratives about other people and places. The other is about how changing the way that women and girls are treated in this world will help change humanity for the better.

wow, thanks for reposting. the speech by chimamanda adichie is amazing and insightful. i feel a similar, smaller frustration about the single story when people show their ignorance about arkansas. maybe we need more arkansan storytellers. :)

i also really related to how she felt when she visited mexico. when i visited certain places on my trip, particularly vietnam, south africa, and botswana, i frequently caught myself feeling surprise at something good about a place. it makes you feel horribly guilty, though of course that doesn't solve anything. but you can at least tell your friends good stories when you return.
